Introduction
Passing Notes is an exciting new business model that is embracing the education revolution occurring in our schools. With the laptops for schools program currently being rolled out the new Passing Notes website will allow teachers, schools and students to access a library of educational literature and provides an alternative to the options currently supplied through the various State Education Departments.
Contributors will be able to log into the system and upload any number of documents to then be published on the site and available for member download. Membership can be easily purchased through the site for a specific time period.
What they we looking for
Passing Notes required advanced membership functionality that would allow them to receive credit card payments through the system. It was also important that existing members would be able to renew their membership at a different rate to new members.
The Intellectual Architecture had to be flexible and the site needed to allow for easy expansion as much of the content was to be added over the coming months and years. Site search and dynamic navigation were 2 features that we utilised to ensure that articles could be easily found throughout the site.
Design
The design of the Passing Notes site needed to be professional, clean and simple. It was important that it accommodated a large amount of content and site sections but did not appear cluttered or confusing. The designers communicated 4 key messages through promotional buttons that allowed users to easily understand how the site could help them. With the clever use of some educational references the site has related well to its target audience.
Features
The site came with comprehensive membership management built in, allowing users to purchase different membership options at various prices. Once a member is logged in they can see the duration remaining in the membership and a special renewal price. It was also important that the site allowed for contributors to fill out a customised form where they could attach multiple files that would be sent through to the site administrators.
